Within GENOA, WG1 O1.2 subproject aims to systematically evaluate the extent and quality of genetic diversity conservation commitments in National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plans (NBSAPs) of countries submitted to the Convention on Biological Diversity.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

No prior experience is required to participate in this project. The first step is to search National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) for a set of predefined keywords. The assessment itself is straightforward and does not require any specialist training.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

To provide background and context, we recommend reading Hoban et al. (2025)<\/a><\/strong>. <\/b>This paper explains the motivation for the project and the overall approach we are taking. Although no formal training is required, reading the paper will help participants understand the objectives of the assessment.<\/u><\/p>\n

<\/u> <\/u>We estimate that assessing a single report will take no more than one hour. This includes searching for the keywords and recording the results. We ask each participant to assess at least 3\u20134 reports. At this stage, we are only searching NBSAP documents for a predefined list of keywords (10 core keywords and 30 additional keywords related to the core terms). We are not asking participants to conduct a detailed qualitative assessment of the reports. Time commitment for the initial phase should be around 4 hours but will increase if you are willing to assess more reports.<\/u><\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

For those interested in co-authorship, assessing reports alone will not be sufficient. Contributors will also need to participate in at least one additional aspect of the project, such as data analysis, manuscript writing, or creating figures and visualisations. Time commitment has not been defined yet, but it should be no more than 5-10 hours.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n

<\/u>Most of the reports are available in English, but some are only available (or are also available) in French, Spanish, Dutch, Russian, Norwegian, or Swedish. Participants should select reports written in languages they are comfortable reading. Where both English and native-language versions are available, please compare them briefly and decide which version is most appropriate to assess. In total, there are 107 reports, and our goal is to complete the assessment of all reports by mid-August at the latest.<\/p>\n
